Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to ask.

Battery, billing, contract, edge cases. If something here isn't clear, email us and we'll add it.

The battery

Yes, it remains Cable's battery throughout. We ask for a small refundable deposit (about three months of electricity costs) which covers our installation and recovery costs only if you leave before the end of your three-year term. Stay to the end and the deposit comes back to you in full.
We size the battery to your usage profile based on twelve months of smart-meter data. The unit is wall-mounted indoors or outdoors against an exterior wall, about the footprint of a small fridge, and our installer handles all permitting, switchboard work and commissioning.
A vetted Cable installer partner, all CEC-accredited, fully insured, and trained on our hardware. Most installs take a few hours and are scheduled at a time that suits your business.
That's our problem, not yours. Your power supply is uninterrupted. It just comes 100% from the grid while we fix or replace the unit. The price you pay does not change. All maintenance is at our cost. We'll get in touch with you to come over and fix up the battery ASAP.

Bill & pricing

One single 24/7 rate per kWh, multiplied by your usage. Plus the fixed daily supply charge that every retailer passes through from your network. That's it: no demand charges, no time-of-use blocks, no peak/off-peak puzzle, no capacity tariffs.
You're billed on what you consume, so if you use more energy then your total bill will increase to reflect that, but you'll remain on the same flat unit rate. There are no demand charges.
The battery charges when wholesale grid power is cheap and discharges when it's expensive. Cable underwrites a price to you where our total margin is sustainable. Because our batteries are so clever, that price is cheaper than traditional retailers can offer sustainably.
Your rate is guaranteed for three years, locked in with only CPI adjustments. No repricing surprises, no loyalty tax.

Contract & cancellation

After signing up there's a 10-business-day cooling-off period. Cancel for any reason, no fee. After that, the energy & battery plan runs three years; if you leave before then, your deposit covers our install and battery recovery costs. If you leave after the minimum term, the deposit is returned in full.
You can roll into a new fixed term at the prevailing rate, switch to a month-to-month rolling plan, or move to another retailer entirely. The battery is ours. If you don't renew, we de-install it at our cost.
If the incoming tenant at your current premises chooses to sign up with Cable, then we'll waive the exit fee.

Supply & reliability

The physical energy is delivered through the distribution network in your area. The role of the retailer is to manage billing, customer support, and pricing.

To bring our innovative product to market, we've partnered with Online Power and Gas Pty Ltd (ABN 95 164 285 634), an existing authorised retailer. Online Power and Gas is your authorised retailer, and Cable is acting as agent for the provision of your battery-bundled Cable retail plan. Cable is in the process of obtaining its own AER retailer authorisation, after which Cable will be your authorised retailer. Either way, your power and customer protections are unchanged.
Standard installs are grid-tied, not islanded. They shut down with the grid for safety, like most batteries in Australia. We can quote a backup-capable install separately for sites where uptime is critical (e.g. cold storage, medical equipment).

Solar & existing systems

Self-consumption keeps working as normal. Any excess flows into the Cable battery first, then to the grid; with feed-in-tariffs heading towards zero, we don't offer one. But nor do we pass on network export tariff charges.
Great that you've already gone distributed! Unfortunately, Cable's offering is only available to customers who don't yet have a battery.

Eligibility & geography

Today: Sydney metro LGAs in the Ausgrid distribution network, for customers consuming 10-160 MWh/year with at least 12 months of smart-meter data.

Outside that? Join the waitlist anyway, we expand into the LGAs with the most demand first.
We are focused on SMB customers, and we know that one way to help your business thrive is by also helping your customers & team. So, we provide exclusive access to residential customers for those households with a valid referral code from a Cable SMB customer. You can buy a lot of coffees with an extra $1k off your power bill!
Get in touch. We're starting with smaller SMEs because the under-served gap is biggest there, but we are quoting selected larger sites case-by-case while we scale.
Battery installs need landlord consent. We provide a template letter explaining the install, the no-cost de-install at end of term, and the insurance position, which handles most concerns up front.
