These rebates are set by the NSW Government and apply to residential electricity accounts. Eligibility is determined by the NSW Government. Low Income Household Rebate
$285 / year (excl. GST)
Helps eligible concession card holders pay their electricity bills. Embedded network (on-supply) residents of residential communities, retirement villages or strata schemes receive $313.50 per year.
Who's eligible
NSW residents whose name appears on the electricity account for their principal place of residence and who hold one of: a Pensioner Concession Card (Services Australia or DVA); a Health Care Card or Low Income Health Care Card; or a DVA Gold Card marked War Widow/Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI), or Disability Pension (EDA).
How to apply
If Cable Energy bills your electricity, contact us and provide your concession or health care card details over the phone. There's no form to complete — we apply it as a daily credit on your bill.
Family Energy Rebate
Up to $180 / year
Helps NSW family households with dependent children cover the cost of their electricity, applied as a credit on your bill.
Who's eligible
NSW residential customers whose name appears on the electricity account and who were assessed by Services Australia as eligible for Family Tax Benefit (A or B) in the previous financial year.
How to apply
Apply through Service NSW each financial year, online or by paper form. Application windows open and close annually — check Service NSW for current dates.
If you also receive the Low Income Household Rebate, you'll receive a partial Family Energy Rebate of $20 for the year.
Medical Energy Rebate
$285 / year (excl. GST)
For customers who — or who live with someone who — has an inability to self-regulate body temperature, often associated with conditions such as Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis. A separate diagnosis confirming the inability to self-regulate body temperature is required.
Who's eligible
NSW account holders who hold a Pensioner Concession Card (Services Australia or DVA), a Health Care Card, or a DVA Gold Card, and who have been assessed by a registered medical practitioner against the qualifying medical conditions.
Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders are not eligible for this rebate.
How to apply
Complete the Medical Energy Rebate application form, have it signed by your treating medical practitioner (who has treated you for at least three months), and submit it to Cable Energy.
Life Support Rebate
Up to $1,343.20 / year
Helps pay electricity bills for people who need, or live with someone who needs, approved energy-intensive life support equipment at home — such as home dialysis, ventilators or oxygen concentrators. The amount depends on the equipment type.
Who's eligible
NSW account holders where you, or someone living with you, has been assessed by a registered medical practitioner as needing approved life support equipment at your principal place of residence.
How to apply
Complete the NSW Life Support Rebate (retail customer) application form with your medical practitioner and give Cable Energy a copy. It's applied as a daily credit on each bill.
You'll need to reapply every 4 years. You can receive more than one rebate if more than one type of approved machine is prescribed, or if more than one person uses approved equipment (one form per patient).
Seniors Energy Rebate
$200 / year
Helps eligible Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders cover the cost of their electricity. Paid once per financial year into your nominated bank account.
Who's eligible
NSW residents who are the primary account holder for their principal place of residence and who hold a valid Commonwealth Seniors Health Card issued by Services Australia or DVA.
How to apply
Apply through Service NSW once per financial year using the form on the Department's website.
You can't receive the Seniors Energy Rebate if you already receive the Low Income Household Rebate.
Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA)
Crisis assistance
If you're experiencing a short-term financial crisis or emergency, EAPA vouchers can help pay your home electricity account. Vouchers are sent electronically to your energy retailer and applied to your account.
Who's eligible
NSW residents who hold an active residential electricity (or natural gas) account in their own name for their principal place of residence, and who are experiencing a short-term crisis or emergency affecting their ability to pay a current bill.
How to apply
Applying involves an eligibility assessment by a NSW Government representative or an approved EAPA provider. Voucher limits apply, and vouchers can't put your account into credit or be applied to closed or already-paid accounts.
