# Cable Energy > Cable Energy is an Australian retail electricity provider for small and medium businesses (SMEs). Cable installs a smart whole-business battery at no upfront cost and sells electricity on a flat 24/7 rate, guaranteed for three years. ## What Cable does - Pairs every customer with a "Cable Battery System", a Tier-1 LFP battery (40 kWh or 100 kWh) installed at the customer's site at no upfront cost. - Cable funds, owns, installs, maintains, and operates the battery. - Charges the battery when wholesale electricity prices are low; discharges when prices are high. Cable keeps the trading margin; the customer gets a lower, flatter bill. - Sells electricity on a single 24/7 flat rate (no demand charges, no time-of-use blocks), guaranteed for 3 years and indexed only to inflation. - With feed-in-tariffs heading towards zero, Cable does not offer a feed-in tariff, but nor does it pass on network export tariff charges. ## Who Cable serves - Australian SMEs. - Currently: Sydney metro Local Government Areas in the Ausgrid distribution network. Customer must consume between 10 MWh and 160 MWh of electricity per year and have at least 12 months of smart-meter interval data. - National expansion is prioritised based on waitlist demand. ## Customer economics - Customers typically save 20-40% versus their current retailer. - No upfront cost. A small refundable deposit (≈3 months of electricity costs) is taken at signup; refunded in full if the customer stays through the 3-year term. - 10 business day cooling-off period after signup; cancel for any reason at no cost. - If the battery fails, the customer's supply is uninterrupted (served from the grid) and the price the customer pays does not change. All maintenance is at Cable's cost. ## Why this is different from a traditional VPP - Traditional retailer + VPP: customer pays $10k+ for the battery, retailer controls it, customer gets a small bill credit. Retains demand charges. - Dynamic-tariff VPP: customer pays for the battery and is exposed to wholesale spot prices; only suitable for highly-engaged "day trader" customers. - Cable: Cable owns the battery and absorbs all of the asset, performance, and market risk. Customer gets a flat, predictable, guaranteed price with zero effort required. ## Channel partners (battery installers) Cable partners with Australian battery installation companies. Cable provides the customer pipeline, design, financing, and ongoing maintenance pipeline. Installers provide the install. Standard install time is 1-4 hours. ## Company - Cable Energy Pty Ltd, based in Sydney CBD (Level 1, 457 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010). - Phone: (02) 7908 5746, 9am-7pm every day. - Cable is live and serving customers commercially. Electricity is supplied via Online Power and Gas Pty Ltd (ABN 95 164 285 634), an authorised retailer under the Australian Energy Regulator, with Cable managing all aspects of the customer experience. ## How Cable Energy compares | | Cable Energy | Traditional retailer + VPP | Dynamic-tariff VPP | |---|---|---|---| | Upfront cost | $0 (Cable funds the battery) | $10k+ (customer buys battery) | $10k+ (customer buys battery) | | Bill predictability | Flat 24/7 rate, guaranteed 3 years | Demand charges remain | Fully exposed to spot price | | Battery risk | Cable carries all risk | Customer carries risk | Customer carries risk | | Effort required | Set and forget | Light monitoring | Day-trader hours | | Maintenance | Cable's responsibility | Customer's responsibility | Customer's responsibility | ## Frequently asked questions **Is the battery really zero cost?** Yes, it remains Cable's battery throughout. A small refundable deposit (about three months of electricity costs) covers installation and recovery costs only if you leave before the end of your three-year term. Stay to the end and the deposit comes back in full. **What if my power use spikes?** You're billed on what you consume, so if you use more energy then your total bill will increase to reflect that, but you'll remain on the same flat unit rate. There are no demand charges. **How does Cable Energy actually make money?** The battery charges when wholesale grid power is cheap and discharges when it's expensive. Cable underwrites a price to you where our total margin is sustainable. Because our batteries are so clever, that price is cheaper than traditional retailers can offer sustainably. **What's the 3-year minimum term?** After signing up there's a 10-business-day cooling-off period. Cancel for any reason, no fee. After that, the energy and battery plan runs three years; if you leave before then, your deposit covers installation and battery recovery costs. Stay the term and the deposit is returned in full. **What if the battery breaks?** That's Cable's problem. Your power supply is uninterrupted. It just comes 100% from the grid while Cable fixes or replaces the unit. The price you pay does not change. All maintenance is at Cable's cost. We'll get in touch with you to come over and fix up the battery ASAP. **Do you serve my area?** Today: Sydney metro LGAs in the Ausgrid distribution network, for customers consuming 10-160 MWh/year with at least 12 months of smart-meter data. Outside that? Join the waitlist, Cable expands into the LGAs with the most demand first. **Do you serve residential customers?** Cable is focused on SMB customers, and one way to help a business thrive is by also helping its customers and team. So Cable provides exclusive access to residential customers for those households with a valid referral code from a Cable SMB customer. You can buy a lot of coffees with an extra $1k off your power bill. **I have rooftop solar - what happens to my exports?** Self-consumption keeps working as normal. Excess flows into the Cable battery first, then to the grid; with feed-in-tariffs heading towards zero, Cable doesn't offer one. But nor does Cable pass on network export tariff charges. ## For battery installers Cable Energy partners with licensed Australian battery installers.
